Handmade Sketchbooks

I handmake my own sketchbooks. I cut the cardboard for the covers, make or repurpose paper to decorate the covers, glue the paper to the covers, and seal them with wax. I punch holes in the completed covers and squeeze a gromet into each hole. I choose the paper and tear them to the correct size. I fold the pages, nest them together, and poke holes along the folded edge to get them ready for binding. Then I bind them all together with an ancient technique called the Coptic stitch.

I love these books. I fill them with personal thoughts and ideas, sketches, inkblot drawings, notes, whatever.

This is the sketchbook that I am currently working in with some of my inkblot drawings:

This is the sketchbook I will be working in after the current one is filled. The cover is made with flora from my property and acrylic inks.
